Episode 57 - Requiem For A Dream (2000) - "Heroin Rules Everything Around Me"
Description
This week, bring the tissues and some Narcan because we’re about to overdose on sadness. This week we’re watching everyone’s favorite anti-drug PSA via way of Darren Aronofsky with his 2000 dram “Requiem for a Dream”. Join as Pete dives down memory lane with his first encounter with a movie that was so bleak it made him want to take a shower, and Aaron comes at this without the fondness of 2000’s filmmaking style. While we may not be able to agree on whether or not the film still works for a modern audience, we can absolutely agree on a few things. The score absolutely holds up, Marlon Wayans is way too ripped to play a drug addict, and there’s no such thing as a fun heroin movie. It also goes without saying that no matter what our feelings on this movie are, this is a film whose imprint can be felt on cinema even to this day. Plus, Spoilers for the new film “Eddington”, learn that James Gunn gives a shit about us, and sometimes people need to be in a psyche ward. Get ready because this one’s a sad one! All this and more on a very Patriotic episode of “I Didn’t Need to See That!”
